Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted the XX congress of INTOSAI

Press Release – December 3, 2010

From November 22 to 28, 2010, a delegation from the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) lead by president of the SAO František Dohnal attended the XX INCOSAI, which was hosted by the supreme audit institution of the Republic of South Africa. Over 500 delegates representing around 152 SAIs as well as 104 heads of SAIs and 54 observers attended the event.

The main debate aimed at the value and benefits of SAIs and auditing in the area of environmental protection and sustainable development. Further highlights on the agenda of the congress included reports by chairs of various regional working groups (EUROSAI, PASAI, ARABOSAI, AFROSAI, ASOSAI, OLACEFS, and CAROSAI) on their recent activities and reports by chairs of INTOSAI working groups on their achievements within the period 2007–2010 as well as plans for the period 2010–2013. With the adoption of over 40 new International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAIs), INTOSAI now – for the first time – has a comprehensive framework, which the individual SAIs can use as a reference point for their activities. INCOSAI also underlined the need to use and apply these standards and guidelines in a practical context“, said Dohnal.

Conclusions and guidelines, which were adopted at the congress, will be published on web sites of INTOSAI as well as the SAO web sites. In 2013 XXI INCOSAI will take place in China.
