2nd meeting of the Reference Group on the Implementation of a proactive approach to SAI independence

The Supreme Audit Office, together with the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI), organised the 2nd meeting of the Reference Group on the Implementation of a proactive approach to the independence of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI), which took place in Prague on 25-28 April 2023.
INTOSAI IDI is an independent and non-political international organisation of SAIs around the world. Its aim is to promote the exchange of experience in the field of public sector financial audit. INTOSAI IDI's activities include, inter alia, promoting and supporting the independence of SAIs, which is a necessary condition for SAIs to fulfil their mission objectively and efficiently, i.e. independently of the audited persons and without external interference. In support of this effort, IDI has established a working group to promote and support the independence of SAIs as defined in the Lima and Mexico Declarations.
The IDI is currently developing a proactive mechanism to promote SAI independence. The aim is for this mechanism to complement the reactive approach to SAI independence, the SAI Independence Rapid Advocacy Mechanism (SIRAM). This effort is intended to result in a comprehensive and coherent approach for promoting SAI independence. The Reference Group meeting in Prague was a follow-up to the 1st meeting, which took place in Pisa, Italy, in October 2022.
