Experts solving the INTOSAI WGEA research project called “Energy Savings” meet at the SAO

From May 12 to 14, 2015, the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) organized and hosted a meeting of experts involved in the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA) research project that focuses on energy savings. Working Group on Environmental Auditing is a working group under the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions, which aims to provide supreme audit institutions (SAIs) with the guidance materials on how to audit a particular environmental or sustainable development topic.

The SAO has been involved in the research project called “Energy Savings” since 15th meeting of the INTOSAI WGEA, which took place in June 2013 in Estonia.

The project “Energy Savings” should result in a document/an analysis, which could provide help in the field of energy auditing and energy efficiency. The main objective is to stress the topics of energy savings as a potential focus of environmental auditing operations.

The main objective of the meeting was to discuss and deal with the observations submitted to the draft document, which the SAO had elaborated.

The observations were settled and each part of the new version of the document was discussed by the attendees. On the agenda of the meeting was also a panel discussion about auditing in the area of energy.

Among the attendees of the meeting were experts from national audit institutions of China, Egypt, Estonia, Slovakia, Sweden, and the USA. A representative from European Court of Auditors, who was also present, got interested in the issue of energy savings and offered to collaborate.
