International Hackathon of Supreme Audit Institutions
Prague, 3 - 5 March 2020
The Supreme Audit Office (SAO) organised the first International Hackathon for experts, data analysts, graphic designers, developers and IT specialists from the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) of EUROSAI member countries in Prague from 3 to 5 March 2020. The event took place in the SAO conference hall and hosted over 70 international participants. The Hackathon aimed to create solutions (e.g. applications or visualisations) that will help to streamline SAI processes and save costs, facilitate the work of auditors, reduce administration and, last but not least, create appropriate tools for international comparison to be used in audits.
All these solutions were created using datasets provided by the individual SAIs participating in the Hackathon. The data reflected either actual operational data or data collected during the audits. The available data included publicly available data in EUROSAI countries provided by national statistical offices, as well as data from other institutions such as the OECD, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the UN, EUROSTAT, etc. For the purpose of the event, the participants also had at their disposal so-called simulated audit datasets, which do not reflect the actual audits carried out but are thematically related to the audited areas.
The outputs of the international hackathon were divided into three categories: (1) tools that make the SAIs' activities cheaper and more efficient; (2) tools that make the audit activities more efficient; (3) tools that enable international comparison of the SAIs' audit results and analytical activities.
