How are cooperative audits carried out abroad? The Czech SAO organised an international seminar regarding this topic

On 14 – 15 November, the Czech SAO organised an international seminar aimed at exchange of experience on cooperative audits under the auspices of EUROSAI. Participants from 20 SAIs – member states of EUROSAI, the European Court of Auditors and the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) took part in the seminar. Aim of the seminar was to present the advantages of cooperative audits and support this form of cooperation between supreme audit institutions (SAIs).

The subject of cooperative audits presents an important theme for a significant number of SAIs and it is also a current topic for the Czech SAO which realized cooperative audits with Germany, Slovakia, Poland and other countries.

President of the Czech SAO, Mr Miloslav Kala opened the seminar with information on project BIEP – Benchmarking Information Exchange Project. The project is an alternative form of cooperation carried out in terms of traditional cooperative audits. For the first time it was presented in September 2016 at the meeting of Presidents of SAIs of the Visegrad Group, Austria and Slovenia. Its aim is to facilitate comparison of data at international level between the individual SAIs.

Presentations in the first part of the seminar provided participants with basic information on the topic. Representative of the European Court of Auditors pointed out different ways of cooperation with SAIs of the EU. Presentation of the IDI dealt with support of SAIs with effort to increase their performance, independence and professionalism, not only in the area of cooperative audits. Furthermore, a number of SAIs presented their experience with concrete cooperative audits and discussed various issues during a workshop.
