Press release – 3 March 2020

The President of the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) Miloslav Kala and his Israeli counterpart - the State Comptroller and Ombudsman Matanyahu Englman - met in Prague on 26 and 27 February. The main topic of the meeting was the cooperation between the two institutions within the European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI). The SAO will take over the presidency of this organization in June for the following three years.

The heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) of the Czech Republic and of Israel discussed projects that facilitated cooperation and exchange of information among European SAIs. For this purpose, the SAO has created the Benchmarking Information Exchange Project (BIEP) which has 19 participating European countries to this day. Alongside its German colleagues, the SAO also leads the EUROSAI working group for professional cooperation.

The XI EUROSAI Congress that will take place in Prague this year at the beginning of June was also one of the topics of the meeting. At the Congress, the SAO will take over presidency of this organisation from the Turkish SAI for the following three years. Israel confirmed at the meeting in Prague that it is interested in leading 50 European SAIs after the SAO. The presidency for the period from 2023 to 2026 will be decided at the XI EUROSAI Congress.

After the meeting, the representatives of the two institutions attended the opening of the exhibition “Mysterious Bond” at the Prague Castle. The exhibition was organised at the occasion of a 30-year anniversary of renewing diplomatic relations between the then Czechoslovakia and the State of Israel.
