The SAO is planning 32 audits for the following year. For example, money spent on education, bridge maintenance, or cyber security will be under scrutiny

Press release — 6.12.2018

The Board of the Supreme Audit Office approved the Audit Plan for 2019. The plan contains 32 audits, such as transport, defence, culture, health, and other topics.

“For the next year we are counting in current and sensitive areas, such as the armoured military equipment and the repair and maintenance of road bridges, including themes which have not been duly scrutinized so far. We need to look at cybersecurity, funds spent on Czech Republic’s membership in international organisations, or how the property confiscated or seized in criminal proceedings is handled ", said Miloslav Kala, President of the SAO.

In addition to these topics, audits aimed at, e.g., finances spent on education will not be missing. Auditors will deal with them in three audits — in one of them reviewing how funds for training of health staff are used, in the next ones, the focus will be on higher education of soldiers and security personnel as well as on the European subsidies for joint training of pupils.

In 2019, for instance, the computerisation of public administration will not escape SAO’s attention. The SAO will examine the introduction of electronic identity cards and electronic access to certain public administration services. Information technology will be also touched upon in audits aimed at the financial support of the development of the high-speed Internet in the Czech Republic.

When selecting audits to be included in the Audit Plan, the SAO primarily proceeds from risk analyses. In these analyses, auditors assess the areas at risk — be it for example the risk of uneconomical use of funds, possible shortcomings in public procurement, an inadequately set system, and others.

The Audit Plan listing all upcoming audits can be found here. It may be supplemented by additional audits in the future.
