The SAO working with Slovak colleagues on a project aimed at comparisons of internationally shared data

PRESS RELEASE – September 12, 2017

Representatives of the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) met with delegates from supreme audit institutions (SAIs) from the extended Visegrad Group (V4+2), Belarus, and Moldavia in Spišská Nová Ves, Slovakia. The event took place from September 10 to 12th, 2017. Among the main topics on the meeting’s agenda was the Benchmarking Information Exchange Project (BIEP), which the SAO carries out together with colleagues from Slovakia. The Project aims at creating a platform for the exchange of information among SAIs so that they can compare and use the data when performing auditing operations.

“We would like to carry out more joint audit operations and exchange experiences from various fields of work, including the implementation of EU funds, developments of the transport infrastructure, and health care expenses. It is essential that audit institutions know the exact amounts paid in various countries – for example, for constructions of motorways, a day of hospital care, and the cost of staying in the old people establishments. Such information could be compared with the data already known to the SAIs”, said President of the SAO Mr. Miloslav Kala and added: “There are many possible data areas. For all such data sets it is necessary that the information is reliable as well as comparable so that each user can draw their own conclusions.”

The SAO recently finished a joint audit operation with the Slovakian SAI, which aimed at the efficiency of the excise duty administration. (See the details here.)

During the meeting, representatives of the SAIs also discussed issues related to enhancing the quality of audits, for instance by strengthening the focus on cross-cutting performance audits. Another topic on the meeting’s agenda was capacity building in the field of analysis.
