A new regional department of SAO in Jihlava

Press Release – November 29, 2007

In the end of this November, a new regional department of the Supreme Audit Office (SAO) was established in Jihlava and the former department in Třebíč was dissolved in agreement with the Law No. 166/1993 Coll., which defines the all-state coverage of the SAO audit activities.

“The agency of the new department will not only involve the Vysočina Region, but its competences will cover the territory from Znojmo to Benešov. Along with the headquarters in Prague, there will be nine regional departments of the SAO,“ said president of the SAO, František Dohnal.

The organizational revision followed the advice approved by the initiative of SIGMA (Support for Improvement in Governance and Management), which stated in 2000 that the SAO should increase the number of its regional offices. The revision has been implemented since July 2007, and its execution was cautiously designed with the view of the 2007 Audit Plan.

“The former number of 19 regional departments was cut down to 9 departments, each with 12 to 22 employees. The actual organization structure of the SAO include the regional departments in Liberec, Ústí nad Labem, Plzeň, České Budějovice, Hradec Králové, Brno, Jihlava, Olomouc, and Ostrava. The towns were selected with regard to geography of the Czech Republic and the fact that the towns are within an hour and a half reach from Prague by car,” said president Dohnal.

The financial reductions arisen from the organizational revision is evident as there is only about half of the regional departments left on the present. In the concrete, the former regional departments in Beroun, Kutná Hora, Mladá Boleslav, Most, Sokolov, Strakonice, Tábor, Pardubice, Šumperk, and Zlín were dissolved.
