IX EUROSAI Congress

On June 16–19, 2014, the ninth triennial convention of the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI) was held in Haag, the Netherlands. In relation to the central theme of the IX Congress, which was innovation, the supreme audit institution of the Netherlands approached the convention in an innovative way and organized many sessions and workshops, which asked for active contributions from all delegates at the Congress.

At the IX Congress, President of the Supreme Audit Office of the Czech Republic (SAO) Mr. Miloslav Kala presented reports on activities of the EUROSAI Goal Team 3: Knowledge Sharing, which the SAO chairs. Delegates from the SAO also presented the outcomes and experience gained at the Seminar on SAI´s Communication Challenges 2014, which took place at the SAO’s headquarters in Prague earlier in June.

The Congress approved many documents, including future plans of individual EUROSAI working groups as well as the EUROSAI budget, and suggested further continuation of the strategic goals in the following triennial period. At the Congress, supreme audit institutions were recommended to initiate new approaches to exchanging their experience, which should be innovative, cheap, and sustainable. The Congress also expressed a support for joint auditing operations, accented the fact that open data bring new possibilities for evaluation processes and for better transparency of public administration, and suggested that audit institutions paid increased attention to them in the future.
