Media ethics discussed in Havlíčkův Brod
Press Release – August 24, 2007
A forum discussion of media ethics took place in the Old Town-hall in Havlíčkův Brod on August 23, 2007. Dominik Duka, bishop of the Hradec Králové episcopate, Michal Horáček, a journalist, writer, and an entrepreneur, and president of the Supreme Audit Office, František Dohnal, took the floor. The meeting was moderated by Jan Pokorný, general editor of the Czech Radio Broadcasting, and took over two hours.
The meeting was held in the frame of the 3rd Summer Journalist School, which ran in Havlíčkův Brod from August 19th to 26th, 2007, and was organized by the Centrum Vysočina NGO. “This year, we focus on four basic topics that structure the participants into four groups: newspaper writers, Internet editors, radio reporters, and TV redactors. They cooperate with experts to deal with particular issues, “ said Milan Pilař, one of the organizers.
“I am glad that such classes can attract young people who are interested in the journalist and reporter profession. Furthermore, I am pleased that these summer classes take place in the region of Czech-Moravian Highlands, my native place. We should raise the level of people’s interest in media working, the quality and objectivism of information they bring,” said Dohnal.
Many interesting names from cultural, journalistic, and political spheres were listed among the invited guests. For example, Helmut Elfenkämper, German ambassador to Czech Republic, archbishop Karel Otčenášek, Karol Polák, a legendary sports reporter, and foreign commentators of the Czech TV, Zdeněk Velíšek and Michal Kubal – they all came to discuss the given issue in public.
