Meeting of the Contact Committee of the Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU and the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg

PRESS RELEASE – October 22, 2014

The Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of the 28 EU Member States and the European Court of Auditors (ECA) met in Luxembourg on 15–17 October 2014. Contact Committee is a regular gathering of heads of supreme audit institutions (SAIs) of EU countries and the European Court of Auditors (ECA). This year’s meeting was also attended by delegates from SAIs of candidate states as well as representatives from important EU institutions, including European Parliament and European Commission.

Traditionally, on the agenda of the Contact Committee meetings were presentations about good practice examples from audits of EU funds’ management and sharing experience from this area. Contact Committee also initiates joint audit activities and coordinates activities of the working groups. One of continuous priorities of the Contact Committee is searching for effective ways of sharing information about statuses and powers of SAIs in the EU countries.

The main agenda themes of this year’s meeting were discussions about new ways of cooperation among national supreme audit institutions and the European Court of Auditors. Delegates also debated possibilities to improve auditing in areas directly involved with measurements taken within the frame of financial crisis in the EU, for example enhancing cooperation between national SAIs and the ECA, notably on issues related to the Europe 2020 Strategy and the banking union, and implementation of Public Sector Accounting Standards for EU Member States (EPSAS).
