President of European Court of Auditors visited the Czech Republic and attended a conference at the SAO

President of the European Court of Auditors (ECA) Vítor Caldeira came to the Czech Republic for a four-day visit, during which he will meet President of CR Mr. Miloš Zeman and Prime Minister Mr. Bohuslav Sobotka. President Caldeira will also attend a meeting of the Committee on Budgetary Control of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament. On June 16th, 2015, President Caldeira will also take part at a conference organized by the SAO, which aims at the topic of electronic data. The conference addresses so called “big data”, open data, and data mining in the area of state administration and public administration.

Vítor Manuel da Silva Caldeira (born 1960) currently serves his third term as the President of the European Court of Auditors. He was elected President of the ECA for the first term (of three years) in 2008. As President of the ECA, he is responsible for the supervision of the performance of the ECA's work, relations with the institutions of the European Union, relations with supreme audit institutions and international audit organisations and also presides over the Administrative Committee.

The European Court of Auditors is the fifth institution of the European Union. It was formally established in 1977 but did not have a defined legal status until 1993. Its headquarters are in Luxembourg. The ECA is composed of one member from each EU member state, one of whom is chosen to be its president. The primary role of the ECA is to externally check if the budget of the European Union has been implemented correctly and if EU funds have been spent legally and with sound management. The ECA carries out financial audits, compliance audits, and performance audits.
