President of the Czech SAO visited by the Auditor General of Wales

Press release
March 6, 2007

On the first Tuesday of March, František Dohnal, the president of the Czech SAO, was visited by Jeremy Colman, who serves as the General Auditor of the supreme audit institution in Wales. Both top representatives have had no opportunity to meet yet.

“Above all, we discussed the Welsh mechanism of public administration auditing. British auditors dwell on performance audit, i. e. controlling the quality of service provided to citizens that is paid from public purse. It is the field, which also the Czech taxpayers will surely be interested in. That is why we shall pay more attention to performance audit in our future activities. We spoke about budgeting and audit operation planning and discussed the ways of auditing the Welsh municipalities”, said František Dohnal to enlighten some topics of the encountering.

The Welsh SAI (WAO) is rather new institution, founded in April 2005 when the former offices of the Audit Commission in Wales (ACiW) and the National Audit Office (NAO) in Wales were brought together into one body. Like other SAIs, WAO is engaged in public funds auditing. The general auditor also holds an external auditor office at the National Assembly for Wales and its related public bodies. The Wales Audit Office Head Office is in Cardiff.

After visiting the Czech SAO, Jeremy Colman continues his trip to participate at the “Developing Public Funds and Fiscal Risks in PPP” Seminar, which runs from March 7 till March 8 in Budapest. Jeremy Colman will chair a group discussion focusing on auditing the projects of Private Public Partnership.
