Press Release – June 10, 2008
From June 2 to 5, 2008, the VII EUROSAI Congress took place in Cracow, Poland. The Polish Supreme Chamber of Control (NIK), which had been vested with the organisation of the event, invited over 200 delegates from 48 European supreme audit institutions, the European Court of Auditors, from EURORAI, and from regional working groups of the INTOSAI (AFROSAI, ARABOSAI, ASOSAI, OLACEFS), from the European Organisation of Regional External Public Finance Audit Institutions (EURORAI), and other institutions. The Czech delegation was headed by president of the Supreme Audit Office (SAO), František Dohnal.
“At the congress, the participants discussed three main topics. Representatives from the State Audit Office of Hungary gave a presentation about audit quality management system within a supreme audit institution. Then representatives from the Court of Auditors interpreted the auditing of social programmes in the field of education. In the end, the colleges from the National Audit Office of the United Kingdom explained details about auditing of social programmes in the field of labour insertion programmes of disabled people,“ said Dohnal.
Delegates could also hear reports of respective activities of the EUROSAI working groups (WG): Environmental WG, Information Technology WG, and Coordinated Audit Tax Subsidies WG. “The Czech SAO presented a poster dedicated to the coordinated audit performed by Czech and Slovak supreme audit institutions in 2005, which focused on management of funds dealing with dangerous waste as recquired by the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal,“ said Dohnal.
The Congress passed resolutions with all the discussion subjects. At the congress, four new members of the Governing Board were elected and new Auditors of EUROSAI were appointed. The VIII EUROSAI Congress will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2011.
