Seminar on the prevention and fight against fraud and other irregularities in EU

On September 30, 2014, the Italian supreme audit institution Corte dei Conti organised a seminar on the prevention and fight against fraud and other irregularities affecting the financial interests of the European Union with special aim at activities of supreme audit institutions (SAIs). The seminar was organised in relation to Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and in cooperation with Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The event was attended by top representatives of SAIs, a delegate from the European Parliament, Director-General of the European Anti-fraud Office (OLAF), a national member the European Union's Judicial Cooperation Unit (Eurojust), a member of the ECA, and other delegates.
On the agenda of the seminar were topics related to the harmonisation of EU framework, strengthening the prevention, and fight against fraud and other irregularities in EU. Attendees to the seminar had opportunities to share their examples of good practices and methods of fighting against frauds. As the topics on the agenda of the seminar are up-to-date, President of the Supreme Audit Office Mr. Miloslav Kala also gave a presentation focused on corruption, both from the international and the SAO’s point of view. He presented several specific cases, introduced the tools for risk analysis, and informed about on-going cooperation with universities concerned in this area of expertise.
