The accounts of the MoEYS for 2019 were reliable and no major shortcomings were found by the SAO
Press Release on Audit No 19/31 – 16 November 2020
The Supreme Audit Office examined the management of accounts and the reliability of the annual accounts of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) for 2019. The auditors also focused on the reliability of the data submitted by the MoEYS, which are used for the assessment of the implementation of the State budget, as well as on the Ministry’s closing account. In either of these areas, the audit did not reveal significant shortcomings.
The auditors did not reveal any misstatements that would have a material impact on the management of the accounts or on the reliability of the data in the annual accounts of the MoEYS. Although the MoEYS had certain misstatements in its accounts, it managed to correct them before the closure of the accounts and before preparing the annual accounts. The 2019 annual accounts thus give a true and fair view of the accounts and financial position of the MoEYS.
In the data submitted by the MoEYS which are used for the assessment of the implementation of the State budget, the auditors found only minor shortcomings which did not affect the reliability of the submitted data.
Even in the case of the MoEYS’s closing account, no material misstatements were found.
“We are happy that we can make a positive assessment of the results of this audit. It seems that repeated audits by the SAO at the MoEYS brought about substantial changes and most importantly, improvements in the management of accounts and other related areas. The Ministry was willing to remedy the situation, it reacted to our findings and recommendations, so today we are happy to say that things are - in principle- in order," said Jan Vedral, Member of the SAO who led the audit.
